EarthView (May 2004)

This release solves a number of issues with EarthViewproducts, introduces an optional Coherent Target Monitoring (CTM) module for EarthView InSAR, and a new product for DEM editing and mosaicking (EarthView DEMED). Some key advantages of this release are:

EarthView APP v3.1

Updated Radarsat database files to include RADARSAT payload file #29.

A problem was fixed with the Flexible Block Adaptive Quantizer (FBAQ) implementation which eliminated a major source of quantization noise that had been visible in low signal-to-noise scenes. This problem had made beam boundaries more evident under those conditions.

A problem with stitching multiple ENVISAT scenes together has been fixed.

A new ICE Look-Up Table (LUT) has been provided for ENVISAT.

The default browser for Windows has been updated to be suitable for Windows XP.

A problem with the pixel tool for ENVISAT Alternating Polarization (AP) Single Look Complex (SLC) data has been fixed.

EarthView InSAR v3.1

NEW: initial release of Coherent Target Monitoring (CTM) optional module for multi-scene deformation analysis. CTM now supports non-linear modelling, interferogram enhancement and atmospheric iteration refinements.

A bug affecting the EV-InSAR geometry calculations was fixed. All input ENVISAT pairs were affected with the exception of ENVISAT ascending mode pairs processed with EV-APP. It is recommended that the affected datasets be re-processed. Users who applied an interim EV-INSAR patch prior to processing need not re-process their ENVISAT data.

The restriction on possible values for user defined ellipsoids has been relaxed somewhat.

Corrected an issue where the external DEM was being used rather than the internally generated DEM when using "DEM mode with External DEM".

Tiepoint reporting during refinement has been made more concise.

The polynomial fitting order for flat Earth phase modeling has been increased from bicubic to 4X4. Better results have been noted following this change. The fitting order for dr/dh, dphi/dh etc. has also increased. Correspondingly, the number of required grid points has increased to 32X32 by default. As a result, the keen observer will notice differences in the interferograms produced by v3.1 as compared to v3.0 and earlier.

The calculation of the sign of the reported perpendicular baseline has been adjusted to yield a sign consistent with DESCW.

The option to input external DEMs in units other than metres (and specify a scale factor relating those units to metres) has been fixed.

EarthView Stereo v3.1

NEW: A SAR ortho-rectification module was added to EV-Stereo v3.1. The final output products now include a DEM image and ortho-rectified master and slave images.

Generic Mapping Tools (GMT 3.0 and GMT 3.3.4) were upgraded to GMT 4.0b. This fixed a bug in gridding and improved the speed of the gridding process.

Several bugs were fixed for ENVISAT metadata extraction.

EV-DEMED v3.0

NEW: Initial release of the DEM editing workstation. This new product was designed to significantly enhance the production and utility of large area (i.e. multi-image) DEMs produced from spaceborne SAR data. It supports the merging of several DEMs to create one composite DEM, edit "spikes" and "wells", re-project and format merged DEMs, and automatically delineate and correct elevations of water bodies.
